Tony Hernandez Welcome back from your summer vacation! Last school year brought us lots of changes in the District and CTA- a new Acting Superintendent, Bill Malone, the retirement of Helene Samango, CTA Executive Director, the hiring of an Interim Executive Director (yours truly), the loss of President Robert Dow to cancer, a new CTA President until June 30th, Dr. Kathi Gundlach, a now a new CTA President, Debra Wilhelm to serve President Dow's 2nd term. In addition, we experienced the wrath of our new Governor, Rick Scott, and the Florida Legislature, determined to pass the most regressive anti-teacher, anti-public school, anti-public employees, and anti-union legislation, and a 3% FRS contribution by public employees to balance the state budget and give the big corporations and the extremely wealthy Floridians tax breaks. Does this make you angry? I thought so!! Get active in 2011-2012 and VOTE in new legislators that are pro-public schools, pro-public employees, and pro-union to represent us in Tallahassee and in Washington DC... and vote to re-elect President Obama, as well as CTA endorsed candidates for the School Board. The future is in your hands. Stand united with your union, the Palm Beach County Classroom Teachers Association, CTA, and join us in our fight for better wages and better working conditions so that we can restore the dignity of our teaching profession in Palm Beach County, in Florida, and in our country. Get active in our union! Ask those who have not joined CTA to join our union, get involved, and make our union stronger. United we stand; Divided we fall! Imagine a stronger and more powerful CTA, role up your sleeves, get involved, and help make this vision a reality.
